Through its education programs, Erasmus UPT aims to offer its students excellent education on Urban, Port and Transport Economics. Erasmus UPT’s educational programs include a Bachelor of Scienceprogram, a Master of Science program, short courses and post-experience programs.

Anna Bornioli
Anna Bornioli is a senior researcher specialised in urban walking, mobility behaviours and healthy built environments. All these themes are concentrated in specialised research in healthy cities and healthy built environments.
Anna’s PhD, completed in November 2017 at the Centre for Transport and Society (University of the West of England, Bristol – United Kingdom) explored the influence of urban environments on wellbeing outcomes from the pedestrian point of view.
Anna has a BSc in Economics from the University of Cagliari, Italy, a MA in Cultural Economics from the University of Bologna, Italy, and spent one year at City University London (Department of Economics) as an Erasmus student.
Giuliano Mingardo
Giuliano Mingardo is senior researcher at the Erasmus Centre for Urban, Port and Transport Economics (Erasmus UPT). He is specialised in parking policy and mobility management. Giuliano regularly advises (local) governments and companies on these issues.
Giuliano now focuses his research on the relation between parking, mobility and retail in urban areas. He also specialises on the interaction between parking, mobility and land use and area development.
Giuliano has gained academic qualifications from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (MSc. in Economics), Erasmus University Rotterdam (Master’s degree in Urban Management) and Delft University of Technology (PhD in parking policy).
Jeroen van Haaren
Jeroen van Haaren is an urban economist specialized in quantitative spatial analysis of among others labor markets, housing and commercial real estate markets, and urban amenities.
In his research Jeroen combines big-data analytics with spatial modelling (GIS). He combines big datasets with programming and visualization. Combining open and restricted datasets often leads to new, innovative data and insight.
Susan Vermeulen
Susan Vermeulen is junior researcher at Erasmus Center for Urban, Port and Transport Economics (UPT). During her studies Susan focused on the theme of behavior and mobility. For her master, Susan has done research on cyclists and cycle paths.
As a junior researcher she advised the municipality of Amsterdam on the systematic monitoring of big data of pedestrians based on WiFi sensors and counting cameras. Susan has conducted big-data analyses on pedestrian traffic in Amsterdam, especially in the Kalverstraat and in the Red Light district. Through these analyses, the police have adjusted the presence of police officers. This is a good example of the applicability of research in policy and strategy.
