The Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento do Território da Universidade de Lisboa (IGOT-ULisboa) is the School of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon. IGOT-ULisboa comprises the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG), the most prestigious Portuguese research centre in geography, established in 1943. With a team of 154 integrated researchers, 75 of whom are PhD holders, CEG is a leading institution conducting research at national and international level on cutting-edge subjects of contemporary Human and Physical Geography and Spatial Planning. Currently IGOT is involved in several international projects namely: MEHR (Erasmus +), Eu-PolarNet (H2020), Cross-Migration (H2020), Nunataryuk (H2020), Gearing Rules (H2020) as well as several Marie Curie actions: DiasporaLink (RISE) and MigRural (IF) and consultancy (DG Regio).
The Lisbon Urban Lab (LUL) was created as a result of the partnership established between the SMARTDEST/IGOT team and the Municipality of Lisbon (Lisbon Urban Information Center – CIUL). The lab aims at providing a space for co-creation of solutions by local residents, shop owners, local workers, associations and activists, and other stakeholders to perceived local urban issues.
