Brief description of our entity
The Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica is a member of the University of Primorska, offering study programs on all three levels (undergraduate study programs, postgraduate study programs, and doctoral study program – Innovative Tourism). The faculty is a member of the international university UNESCO UNITWIN network, which unites faculties that teach cultural tourism. It is the only faculty of tourism in Slovenia that offers multi-disciplinary teaching and research of tourism and educates human resources for high-quality planning, management, and an excellent tourism offer.
With this in mind, we have been implementing the European vision of modern education in tourism for 25 years. We use the knowledge in the field of economy, ecology and social sciences to direct tourism into sustainable and innovative development. Thus, we contribute to the knowledge society, innovative solutions, sustainable development, and cultural harmony.

Dejan Križaj’s research and publications focus on R&D in tourism and the promotion and measurement of tourism innovation. He is the co-founder of AIRTH – Alliance for Innovators and Researchers in Tourism and Hospitality. Since 2006, he is the chairman of the Slovenian National Tourism Innovation Awards Commission on behalf of Slovenian Tourist Board, and Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. His projects and innovation efforts have been internationally recognized by the UNWTO, OECD and EU. Teaching e-tourism and tourism innovation courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. Emil Juvan is a lecturer of Business and Organizational sciences in tourism at the Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica, University of Primorska. His entire formal education was within the field of hospitality and tourism at schools in Slovenia, United States of America and Australia. In 2015, he completed PhD studies at The University of Queensland (The UQ Business School, Australia). He has extensive working experiences from hotel and other tourism companies in Slovenia and abroad. His research focus is development and management of tourist destinations and reducing negative environmental impacts of tourism. He aims at rising the quality of scientific research in the field of tourism, where he primarily follows the work of Professor Sara Dolnicar, one of the leading international experts in testing and refinement of measures used in social science research. He received several recognitions and awards for his work, most recently The Rama Krisha Sastry Pappu Memorial Prize for Research Higher Degree Excellence in Business (the UQ Business School, Queensland).

Miha Bratec is a researcher and assistant at FTS UP – Turistica. He is currently finishing his PhD studies at SEB LU working on a thesis on technology acceptance of digital distribution channels among the hotels. Miha joined academia following his international industry experience in e-tourism working for the corporate e-distribution giants such as Booking.com and Bookassist. His research interests include hospitality management, e-commerce, e-marketing & e-distribution, ICT adoption in tourism, revenue management, competitiveness & sustainability issues in tourism, sharing economy, disruptive technologies, gastronomy and wine tourism.

Peter Kopić, is an assistant at the University of Primorska, Faculty for tourism studies – Turistica, in the field social sciences and humanities in tourism. His main areas of research and pedagogical engagement are innovation and ICT in tourism. He is currently working on a research on potentials of use of virtual reality and augmented (VR/AR) in the development of tourism products and services and the development of rural tourism. He is also a technical editor of the journal AcademicaTuristica – Tourism and Innovation Journal and a member of the staff in the Project management office.

Tadej Rogelja is a teaching assistant and Ph.D. student at the University of Primorska, Faculty for tourism studies Turistica in Portorož. His research filed covers modern, innovative and sustainable types of accommodation (i.e. glamorous camping) and related issues in this field. His special focus is also on the field of innovative tourism in general (mainly on digitalization tools and memorable tourist experiences research topics). In the past, he participated in various projects related to tourism at the national level.
He is the founder and president of the Slovenian local tourist association ŠKTDFarjovca (Karst),member of AIRTH (Alliance for Innovators and Researchers in Tourism and Hospitality)and co-creator of an innovative offering at family-run business Rogelja Herbal Farm.
His other areas of interest are; digital marketing, information technology, web and experience, design, and corporate identity development
