DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY
The Department of Sociology at UNIVIE is a dynamic institute providing higher education – undergraduate (B.A.) and graduate (M.A. and doctoral) programs –undertaking also substantial research in the area of Social Sciences broadly conceived from work/organization and gender to migration/life course and inequalities, from urban studies, media and education to culture and media. It has a particularly broad spectrum of theoretical and methodological approaches, from large quantitative surveys to more qualitative oriented ethnographic work, including mixed methods. Drawing on a long tradition of research in the humanities and social sciences, the Department of Sociology investigates how social structures change, disentangling the complexities that the process brings about.
The Team
Niklas Pernhaupt
Niklas Pernhaupt is a researcher at the Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna. His research interests lie in the area of the labour market, democratic approaches to technology, and cognitive cultural sociology. His methodological foci lie on quantitative data analysis and focus group research in which participants play a more active role. In his dissertation, he investigates how persons jointly imagine the future role of automation in everyday lives. Read More
Elisabetta Mocca
Elisabetta Mocca is a University Post-Doctoral Assistant at the Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna since September 2018. Prior to that, she worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh Business School (2016-2018) and at the Department of Social and Political Studies at the University of Edinburgh (2017-2018). From 2009 to 2013, she worked as a Research Associate at the Policy Studies Institute in London and from 2008 to 2009 as a Research Assistant at the Economic and Social Research Institute in Turin. She holds a PhD in Politics from Brunel University London (2015), a Master’s Degree in Administration Science (2008) and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies (2005) from the University of Turin, Italy. Yuri Kazepov
Yuri Kazepov is professor of International Urban Sociology and Compared Welfare Systems at the University of Vienna (Austria). He is a founding member of the Network for European Social Policy Analysis (ESPAnet) and past-president of RC21 of the International Sociological Association. His fields of interest are urban governance, citizenship and urban quality of life, social policies in comparative perspective. On these issues, he has been carrying out comparative research and evaluation activities for the European Commission and many National Agencies.
